About the Item

A good French Napoleon III period chariot clock of antique vert marble and ormolu. The subject is of cupid riding a fine chariot drawn by a pair of lively and very well modelled horses. The reins are all fully decorated and the ormolu mounts are extremely fine. The base is set on four ormolu paw feet and the front of the base is mounted with applied ormolu mounts referring to cupid viz. his bow, the torch of everlasting love and his quiver of arrows. The movement is set in the chariot wheel and is an 8 day movement, striking the hours and halves on a bell. Stamped with the Medaille L'Argent 1855, Vincenti & Cie.
