An Important Early 19th Century Gilt and Patinated Bronze Figural Mantle Clock By Andre-Antoine Ravrio and Mesnil Modeled with a large and beautiful gilt bronze figure of recumbent Cleopatra, on a rouge griotte marble and gilt bronze base with bun feet. The clock face inscribed Ravrio, Bronzier à Paris and Mesnil hr After the famous marble sculpture by Canova, displayed at the Vatican. André-Antoine Ravrio (1759-1814) was one of the most eminent and successful bronziers in pre- and post-revolutionary France. His greatest fame came during the Napoleonic era when he supplied bronze furnishings for the Empress Joséphine’s apartments in the Tuileries and in 1810 was appointed as the Emperor’s chief bronzier.
