Lyre Pendulum Clock White Marble Louis XVI, 19th Century

About the Item

This 19th-century Lyre pendulum clock in white marble embodies the elegance of the Louis XVI era, with rich, finely chiseled gilded bronze ornamentation. Adorned with intricate garlands of flowers, draped garlands, rosettes, and acanthus leaves, this clock showcases the mastery of classical design. The marble Lyre is crowned by a radiant neoclassical mask, symbolizing both the sun and the passage of time with vertical decoration, crafted in bronze, representing the strings of a lyre, evoking the connection between music, time, and the divine. The porcelain dial, featuring black enameled Arabic numerals, complements the design. Resting on a squared marble base, the clock stands gracefully on four spinning top feet of gilded bronze, adding to its regal presence. The bronze lyre and sun motifs symbolize Apollo, the Sun God, who governs the passage of time, as well as Louis XIV, the Sun King. The mechanism is complete and in working order, with a recent review to ensure its smooth operation.
