Period French Empire Mantle Clock

About the Item

The clock features a winged cupid standing on his chariot drawn by two doves and supported on clouds; cupid holds the reins to two doves which appear to be guiding the chariot. The open 'wheel' of the chariot contains the outer enamel clock dial with its enamel chapter ring. The lower clock base has a frieze across the front depicting cupids playing with a goat in a landscape. This fanciful model is entirely made of finely chased bronze with its original fire gilding. A period movement with a silk string suspension system replaces the original movement, (reason unknown), necessitating minor modifications to the back of the clock dial including the addition of a marble base to accommodate a longer pendulum. The case sits on four toupie feet.
