This nineteenth-century gilded bronze clock exemplifies the grandeur of the Empire style, featuring a rectangular base with four legs, each intricately carved with subtle patterns. Atop the clock, a finely detailed figure of a lady is shown playing with spruce, adding an elegant touch to the composition. Flanking the clock are two eagles, symbolic of power and emblematic of the Empire period. The use of eagles, often associated with military triumph and imperial authority, underscores the militaristic elements that define the period. The dial is exquisitely enameled, with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, encircled by four decorative stars. The young woman atop the clock may be an homage to the renowned English novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817), known for her works centered on love and marriage.
