About the Item
This listing features a French Empire style mantel clock along with two matching urns. Also known as Neoclassical style, French empire style was a widespread and influential movement in painting and other visual arts that began in the 1760s, reached its heigh in the 1780s and '90s. It was partly as a reaction against the decorative Rococo style which was more common at the time. Ornamentation of furniture at the time was rigorous in its symmetry, and consisted of swans, lions, figures bearing palm branches, rose and wreaths.
