About the Item

Beautiful antique fireplace set consisting of a clock and a pair of cassolettes. The black marble clock rests on lions' feet and is surmounted by a bronze engraved Medici vase with eight faces of Greek gods and adorned with a garland of vine leaves and ribbons. Both sides of the clock are decorated with the heads of lions holding handles in their mouths. The cassolettes, too, have masks and lions' feet, and inside their cups there are medallions depicting a man and a woman represented in the manner of the antique. Numbers 9 and 12 are missing on the dial. French work of the mid-19th century.

A fine 19th Century French Neoclassical White Marble and Gilded Bronze Mantel Clock Set with its original and exceptional movement. Bears the makers mark, Finot a Versailles. The dial supporting a reclining bronze classical muse on a rectangular white Carrara marble base decorated by a row of gilt bronze beads, the set rests on four feet. The cross in the hand of the bronze muse can be removed (see photos). This 19th Century figurative clock is very decorative, interesting for its technicality of the dial and provenance. The bronze feminine muse and its shape has a perfect patina and is a remarkable conversational piece.
