Napoleon III Gilt Bronze Clock of a Victorious Crusader Knight in Battle

About the Item

A finely cast gilt bronze figurative clock showing knight crusader stranding on rocky terrain after battle. The knight has a spear in one hand, a battle axe in the other, his helmet lying on the ground at his feet and his shield slung back across his shoulders. The decorative top section of the clock sits on a rectangular base richly ornamented in a Gothic Revival gilded mount. The white enamel dial has roman numerals, Breguet hands, and is signed 'Wodon Formee a Nemur', (possibly the retailer). The original movement has a silk string suspension system and rings the hours and halfs on a bell. The backplate is signed 'Baschet Baullier a Paris', the clockmaker. France, circa 1850.
