Napoleon III Mantel clock in Black marble clock surmounted by a patinated bronze representing a Greek writer or philosopher holding the a manuscript on his knees One of a kind and very large, bronze, French mantel clock with a sculpture of a Greek writer or philosopher, in blued bronze, with papyrus and olive leaves. The writer is seated with a beautifully sculpted, Ottoman-style footstool at his feet and an open book on his knees... The sculpture rests on a stepped base of black marble outlined with gilt bronze, the piece completes its base with 4 gilt bronze supports in the shape of an elaborate rockery with an animal claw-shaped finish. Symbolic details, alluding to the central character, such as a set of papyrus and olive branches in golden bronze, enrich and provide great refinement to the piece!!! The item looks beautifully processed down to the details. The mantel clock has Arabic numerals on a white dial. Signed " "GRAVERAND, PARIS" The signed dial is in good condition. It is protected by a cut glass door. The movement runs and strikes well. The hours and the half-hours ring. Paris Machinery The bronze is made of several pieces and not one piece, which gives it a nice detailed effect.
