Pendule Lyre Luis XVI White Marble Clock, 19th Century

About the Item

Large Lyre Pendulum clock in white marble, rich ornamentation of very finely chiseled and gilded bronzes such as garlands of flowers, draped garlands, rosettes and acanthus leaves. The marble Lyre is surmounted by a radiant neoclassical mask from which escapes a bronze pendulum symbolizing the strings of a lyre, the porcelain dial with black enameled Arabic numerals. 30-day movement mechanism. It rests on a squared marble base and four spinning top feet in gilded bronze. The bronze lyre and sun surmounting the clock are symbols of Apollo, the Sun God who oversees the passage of time and also refers to the Sun King, Louis XIV. Mechanism complete and working.
