About the Item

Porcelain mantel clock with applied floral decoration Germany Biscuit porcelain, polychrome decoration and gilding c. 1900 Dimensions: H 44 × W 21 × D 15 cm Description: Elaborately crafted mantel clock in white porcelain with richly modelled Rococo-style case. The surface is decorated with hand-painted floral bouquets, gilded scroll motifs and a profusion of applied flowers in polychrome relief, including roses, anemones and violets. The enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes is set within a finely chased gilt-brass bezel. The movement, fitted at the back, features a countwheel strike on bell. Background: Porcelain clocks of this type were produced around 1900 in Thuringia (Rudolstadt, Volkstedt, Scheibe-Alsbach) as well as in Bohemia. They reflect the continued influence of 18th-century Meissen and Dresden models, combining applied porcelain flowers with delicate hand painting and gilding. Condition: Applied floral ornaments with minor chips; otherwise well preserved. Gilding and painting in fresh colours. Movement complete and running.
