About the Item

Large, rare and perfectly running Art Deco clock with polar theme. If you are looking for a rare, large and sculptural antique clock to grace your living space then this striking specimen (no pun intended) from the European Art Deco era could be perfect for you. Most people don't look at antiques the way most collectors and enthousiasts do, because most people don't understand how much skill and time it would have taken to create, for example, this amazing clock. It is therefor too that most people don't realize that this clock actually is a work of art. Without television and only some early photography most people would have never even seen a polar bear or penguin. So for those who had and could afford a work of art like this in which these barely known creatures would have also been portrayed in a perfectly stylized fashion, this enormous clock would take pride of place on their mantel. What makes this clock extra special, besides the stunning materials and overal design, is the way in which the polar bear is sneaking up on the two penguins who seem oblivious to what is about to happen next. Maybe their time is up. The clock face of this work of art clock is marked Fournier, Charleville. We are not certain if this was the clock maker or the 'horlogier' (the clock selling specialist) who would have found the first owner for it. Whomever created this table clock really presented the world with a marvelous and decorative work of art, which is exactly where the style name 'Art Deco' later would refer to. The hand crafted and marble frame (or clock house) with the 'hunting scene' alone will have taken many days (if not weeks) to design and execute and the diamond shaped dial face (and door) too is a work of art in itself. The rare color combination with the green, white and blue is no accident either. They ofcourse are the most important colors of mother nature herself. All these elements combined literally lift this wonderful antique clock way above the average. This clock also comes with the antique key for winding its perfect working, eight-day clock AND striking mechanism. Thanks to its extra wide size this truly beautiful clock can be placed on your sideboard or your credenza, but it will also look marvelous on your wooden, concrete or marble mantel. Needless to say that this stunning and very large clock will never fail to impress. If you like this top quality made and handsome large clock as much as we do then you will love our price. Especially when taking into account that perfect packing and worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days are included/complimentary. Maximum width x height x depth: 29.6 x 12.2 x 7.9 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
