Samson Porcelain and Antique Ormolu Chinoiserie Elephant Clock

$5,710.02

About

This exquisite and delicate clock typifies the European fascination in the 19th century with Chinese art and orientalist themes. The circular clock dial is bordered with asymmetric ormolu, styled as acanthus leaves and features a white dial and black Arabic numerals to the face. The clock hands are of pierced, intricate ormolu. The clock dial is carried by an elephant made of white Samson porcelain. The elephant wears a saddle that depicts a Chinese figure and is set upon an ormolu base in the asymmetric Rococo style, formed of C-scrolls and acanthus leaf motifs. There is a red porcelain makers mark to the rear.
