Top Design 1920s Art Deco Mantel Clock Made of Solid Coromandel w. Beveled Glass

About the Item

Unique and stunning Art Deco mantel clock. For most people that were born after, say 1980, it is hard to believe that in the earliest years of the twentieth century a variety of craftsman were still hand-creating unique items. This included everything from drawing that one of a kind piece on paper (starting with some sketches) all the way to hand carving the wood, hand grinding the beveled edges on the glass and, as is the case with this clock, putting the hundreds of pieces that make a clock mechanism together. Apart from 'haute couture' and maybe some extremely high-end jewelry, you don't see that anymore in this day and age. Why? The man hours that go into hand creating unique items and the expensive materials that you need to create those items will make them far too expensive for the modern day world. This stunning and pure Art Deco table or mantel clock is no exception to that. It is made of one of the most expensive woods that money can buy, the design is one of the best we have ever seen and this particular clock comes with a rare (possibly American) clock mechanism. As you can see in the photo of the inside of this clock (image 11) this work of beauty has no removable pendulum going back and forth. Instead it has a 'floating anchor', which is a mechanism that is much smaller and more accurate and integrated in the 'clock house'. The time telling mechanism runs perfectly and in image 19 you can see where the speed of this clock can be adjusted (if necessary). The only thing not working well is the 'striking mechanism' and according to our clock maker that cannot be fixed here in Europe, because he thinks this mechanism is American. Mind you, you can simply turn of the striking mechanism by moving the spiral gong away from the hammer (many people don't like the sound of a clock striking anyway). Besides the striking imperfection this truly is one of the best Art Deco clocks from the early 1900s that we have ever seen and sold. The stunning design, the top quality make, the excellent condition, but also the warm patina make this a work of art that can be enjoyed by you for hopefully many decades, but it will also be enjoyed by many more generations after you. That is how good and timeless its design and beauty is. Our price for this one of a kind and exceptional Art Deco clock includes perfect packing (in a custom made box) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum width x height x depth: 13.8 x 8.7 x 5.5 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again). You can shop all our 1000+ listings by pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'.
