About the Item

Unique French-Style Mantel Clock With Candelabras, Early 20th Century A unique French-style set with a mantel clock and two four-arm brass candelabras, dated to the early 20th century. The clock is in working order, recently serviced by a watchmaker, and chimes full hours and half-hours. The visible signature "Fabrique D'Horlogerie Paris" and the serial number 305 indicate the clock's French origin. French clock mechanisms were renowned for their high quality during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The dial features Roman numerals and intricate details, including a lion emblem and floral ornaments. This suggests a design inspired by classicism or neo-Baroque style. On the dial, there is a plaque with the inscription: “J. Bougeot à La Châtre.” This likely refers to the name of a retailer or a local clockmaker who sold the clock in La Châtre, France.
