About the Item

Victorian Black Marble Mantel Clock with Rouge Marble Columns, Attributed to F. Marti, France, c.1860 A handsome mid-19th century French mantel clock housed in a finely constructed English black marble architectural case of Palladian form. The case features variegated rouge marble column supports and is enriched with delicate gilt incised decoration in the neoclassical taste. The circular enamel dial with Arabic numerals and blued steel hands is set within a cast brass bezel. The twin-train movement, stamped for F. Marti, strikes on a bell and runs for eight days. The clock retains its original rear access door with silk-backed brass grill and visible pendulum. This piece exemplifies the refined decorative arts of the Victorian period, combining French horological precision with English case craftsmanship. Dimensions: Height: 36.5 cm (14.4 in) Width: 45.5 cm (17.9 in) Depth: 17 cm (6.7 in) Condition: Very good overall. Minor wear to the marble consistent with age. Some faint and stable hairlines to the enamel dial. The movement has been professionally serviced and is in good working order.
