1930s Art Deco Modernist Clock by ATO

About the Item

Superb 1930s Art Deco clock by the French clock makers ATO . The Macassar wood casing contrasting against the silvered dial and heavily stylised Art Deco numerals look nothing less than impressive, a clock that can't be mistaken for any other era. I could wax lyrical all day about this clock but I'll save you from that and let the pictures do the talking. There's a little bio below for those interested. Although the original batteries are no longer available to power these clocks our horologist has adapted the mechanism to take a modern battery. About ATO ATO is short for Hatot (Leon Hatot) Léon Hatot born 22.04.1883 died 11.09.1953. He was a French clock maker and is famous for producing one of the first battery operated clocks in the 1920s. He patented the Classic form of pendulum which used a magnet and coils to impulse the pendulum. This is done by the current from the first coil switching a transistor which supplies a larger current to the second coil at the right moment. Lalique supplied some of the glass panels for some of his clocks. He used various materials to produce his clocks, marble, onyx, bakelite, wood and glass. Most of his clocks are very stylish and Deco and although the original batteries are no longer available to power them - our horologist has adapted the mechanism to take a modern battery. ATO Clocks are now highly sought after world wide.
