Burr Walnut and Ormolu Desk Set Signed Appay a Paris

About the Item

Burr walnut and ormolu desk set signed Appay a Paris. A very smart Parisian turn of the 19th century desk set comprising a pair of inkwells with a pin drawer and an 8 day clock above which stands a baiting Eagle. The set is ormolu-mounted but uncleaned and with the burr walnut of magnificent colour the whole is restrained, elegant and very masculine. The base of the inkwell and of the clock housing have ormolu bases with a Fine leaf and dart pattern, while the top of each inkwell has fine anthemion engraved tops and turned finials. The back of the clock itself is ormolu with a floral pattern. The clock has an integral key and a time setting knob at 7 o clock. The Eagle is cast and finished in superb detail and its ormolu is in mint condition but has never been cleaned. The desk piece is engraved with the signature "Appay Paris" to the rear of the ormolu base. A lovely piece.

A spectacular and extremely high quality French early 19th century Louis XVI st. white Carrara marble and ormolu clock, signed Simona à Paris, circa 1819. The clock is raised by six elegant topie shaped feet below the exceptional and most decorative scallop shaped white Carrara marble base. The base displays an exceptional stepped design and beautiful pierced baluster like wrap around ormolu gallery with a fine twisted ribbon fillet and central rosette. Leading up each side are impressive columns raised by square supports with exceptional concave sides decorated with fitted pierced foliate ormolu mounts, and rosettes encased by unique posts and chains.
