About the Item

Square easel-back desk clock with japanned and gilt-lacquered metal case, the matte black ground enriched at the border with parcel-gilt and polychrome Chinoiserie—floral sprays, geometric corner-key devices, and feathered fronds—framing a recessed, gilded shadow-box bezel. The circular dial displays a satin-gilt chapter ring with Roman numerals and minute track, signed Chelsea at VI, enclosing a black lacquer center finely painted with an idyllic Chinese garden: figures on arched bridges before pavilions and rockwork, a hovering bird and waterfowl amid stylized reeds. Pierced, scrolled hands in bright white metal. The verso with integral hinged easel support and a nickel-plated 8-day timepiece movement accessed from a round rear cover, with winding and regulation arbors exposed. Measurements: 6.75 w x 6.875 h x 6.75 d (with stand).
