French 19th Century Belle Epoque Period Bronze And Ormolu Annual Clock

About the Item

A high quality and very unique French 19th century Belle Epoque period patinated Bronze, Ormolu and silvered Bronze annular clock. This rare model annular clock is raised on a circular patinated Bronze pedestal with an Ormolu berried laurel vine edge around its base while supported by Ormolu snail shell feet. The mid section of the pedestal is elegantly decorated with swaging floral Ormolu garlands, bowed ribbons and a central reserves of arrows and hearts. The arrow points to the time of the two silvered bronze chapter rings shown with Gilt numerals. The top platform holds a majestic and richly detailed snail with an Ormolu body and patinated Bronze shell. Atop the snail sits an Ormolu winged cherub holding a trident in one hand and pointing for direction with the other.

This beautiful clock, formed from gilt bronze and porcelain, is designed and decorated in a discernibly Moorish style. The clock is supported by a flat shaped gilt bronze base, the base supporting four gilt bronze columns that support the gilt bronze clock drum.
