French 19th century Ormolu, Marble and Porcelain clock, by F. Pelissier

About the Item

A most elegant and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu, white Carrara marble and Saxe Porcelain clock signed by 'F. Pelissier, France. The clock is raised on an oval shaped white Carrara marble base with circular beaded Ormolu supports. Above is the Ormolu base decorated by foliate vines adorned with acorns amidst colorful Saxe porcelain flowers. The enameled dial is accented with swaging floral garlands and is centered within the lyre shaped case with two blossoming branches above flanking a tied bow. The frame of the lyre has an inner beaded design with outer branches of fruits and flowers. The lyre shape leads to the top central sunburst finial above a swaging floral Porcelain decorated garland. At the back is stamped 'Ovington, New York, Chicago and France' as it was retailed by Ovington. F. Pelissier was a 19th-century French clockmaker known for elegant mantel and table clocks, often featuring fine bronze mounts, enamel dials, and classical motifs. His work reflects the precision and decorative style of the era, with pieces retailed through notable Parisian houses. Though little is known about his life, Pelissier’s surviving clocks are prized for their craftsmanship and timeless design.
