About the Item

From our Clocks collection, we are pleased to offer this George Betjemann Novelty Drum Clock, dated 1873. The clock is modelled in the form of a timpani drum raised on a tripod stand above a circular plinth base with a ropework brass border. The drum features a semi-circular body with a silver-plated rear case and brass fittings engraved with foliage motifs, mounted with a pair of drumsticks. The front is fitted with a silvered dial, black enamel Roman numerals, and blued steel hands. The eight-day movement withdraws from the case to allow winding and adjustment of the hands. The reverse is stamped G.B & Sons for George Betjemann & Sons beneath a registration mark dating the piece precisely to 24 April 1873. A fine novelty clock of the Victorian period.
