About the Item
German mahogany and ormolu bracket clock with gilt bronze pineapple finials, flanking figural floral corner mounts, arched floral side screens, hinged astragal shaped glass door with steel engraved face housing a three train movement striking Westminster chimes on the quarter and hour, all terminating on a molded edge base with gilt floral scrolled bronze feet, late 19th century. Clock is in working condition.
Winterhalder & Hofmeier were considered the finest clock makers in the Victorian era. They were based in several towns in Germany’s Black Forest region. The company was established in 1810 by Thomas Winterhalder in Friedenweiler, southern Germany, and was continued by his three sons Matthäus, Karl and Linus. The most common trademark was "W&H Sch"(Winterhalder & Hofmeier Schwarzenbach). This trademark was usually stamped on the brass movementL
