"Parrots & Flowering Branches", Rare, Fine Art Deco Glass Clock by Maurice Model

About the Item

Virtually glowing as light passes through its satiny glass, this highly rare Art Deco clock by Maurice Model features two parrots grooming their feathers amidst a profusion of flowering branches. Of all the artists and makers in France who attempted to approximate the sophistication of René Lalique's satin-finished glass pieces in the 1920s -- including Verlys, Sabino and Gueron -- Model came closest to approaching the master. Operating out of a short-lived studio and manufacturing facility in Verdun -- destroyed during World War II -- Model produced a number of lighting fixtures and, more rarely, desktop pieces such as this clock. This piece is rare, and rarer still is an example that retains its original clock, complete with Model's mark on the reverse.
