About the Item
Magnificent 18th-century neoclassical-style clock, finely crafted in white marble and gilt bronze. It features a central putto beneath an elegant canopy supported by four columns. This refined model is signed: Le Chopie, à Paris, circa 1785.
The circular architectural case is surmounted by a white marble dome and a conical finial atop a stepped, beaded cornice resting on fluted columns. The lower section is adorned with Ionic columns mounted in gilt bronze.
The two rotating hour rings are formed from individual enameled plates: the hour ring is adorned with Roman numerals, the minute ring is divided into five Arabic minutes, and the time is indicated by a gilt bronze arrow on the front. The visible movement rests beneath the dials on a star-shaped platform engraved with the maker's name, Lechopie AParis. The visible inverted ticking wheel drives a sunburst pendulum suspended from a silk thread, positioned at the rear. The striking mechanism, with its star-shaped revolution counter, is on the bell. It works.

Onyx, Marble, Gilt Bronze and Champlevé Enamel Pedestal Clock
Located in London, GB
This colorful pedestal clock has been crafted from fine red marble and green onyx, and beautifully decorated with gilt bronze (ormolu) and champlevé enamel. While a popular crafts material in ancient times, onyx was largely forgotten about until its rediscovery in the mid-19th century in Algeria by a French marble-worker called Delmonte. Onyx became highly fashionable in France following this discovery, and it was used to create a variety of decorative art objects.
The clock features a green onyx cube-shaped case, which is surmounted by a slightly projecting red marble top. This top is fringed with champlevé enamel drapery-like motifs, with gilt bronze drop-finials. The case is mounted on its front with a circular dial, which features a central floral champlevé enamel motif, encircled by black Arabic Numerals. This dial is set within a gilt bronze egg-and-dart and champlevé enamel bezel. The sides of the case are mounted with circular gilt bronze barometers...
