About the Item
This French Louis XV ormolu bronze clock, crafted by Etienne Le Noir A Paris in the 18th century, is a testament to exquisite craftsmanship. The metal dial, featuring a blend of Roman and Arabic numerals, proudly bears the mark of Etienne Le Noir A Paris. Its single barrel movement, uniquely numbered 6-9 and 529B, is a testament to the precision and individuality of this timepiece.
For maintenance and winding, a key for the back plate is thoughtfully included, underscoring its functional elegance. This clock stands as both a work of art and a functional piece of history, embodying the refinement and sophistication of the Louis XV era.
Etienne I Le Noir, or Lenoir, indeed held a significant position among Parisian clockmakers during the reign of Louis XIV and the early years of the 18th century. Born to clockmaker Simon Le Noir and Marie du Grand-Mesnil, he received his training in his father’s workshop. Achieving master status on January 14, 1698, he established his own workshop in prestigious locations such as the Place Dauphine and the rue de Harlay.
His reputation soared within influential circles, earning acclaim among esteemed Parisian collectors passionate about luxury horology. Etienne I Le Noir's mastery and skill in crafting timepieces contributed to his enduring legacy, solidifying his place as a revered figure among the horological artisans of his time.
