About the Item
A lovely and attractive English trunk dial clock made c. 1840.
The mahogany veneered case is of an original design with slightly shaped sides to the trunk and a Sheraton-like shell inlay in the middle accentuated by a satinwood line inlay. It has a very warm patina. There is a door to the side that gives access to the movement and one in the slanted bottom to set the pendulum going The latter can be secured by two brass hooks.
The 14-inch painted wooden dial is protected by a glass door with a cast brass bezel with lock. The time is indicated by a fine pair of spade hands on a black Roman chapter ring with five minute and minute divisions.
The eight-day movement is constructed between two plates and consists of a going train only. It has a gut fusee, anchor escapement and a semi-long pendulum.
The clock is in good original condition. It is extremely suited to hang in a hall or a kitchen.
