About the Item

An elegant French late 19th century Louis XVI st. Patinated Bronze and Ormolu clock. The clock in the shape of the Urn of Prosperity is raised by a square base with concave corners and recessed panels. The concave panels are decorated by rosettes while the side panels have recessed panels with a reeded interior design. At the mid section of the urn is the fitted enameled dial decorated by swaging floral garlands amidst the numerals.m The bejeweled bezel is below a richly chased top tied bow holding a floral garland on each side. The garlands are held on both sides by the C scrolled ormolu handles with bottom acanthus leaves and top berried foliage. At the top is a wonderfully decorative pineapple shaped ormolu finial. The mechanism stamped "R" A" and "1897", the underside of the base "JP", Jacob Petit Jacob Petit (1796-1868) was a renowned Parisian hard-paste porcelain producer for the Sèvres porcelain manufacturer and then purchased his own porcelain factory with his brother in Fontainebleau in 1830.
