French Mid 19th Century Louis XVI St. Ormolu Cartel Clock, Signed ‘Pons’

About the Item

An exceptional and very high quality French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu cartel clock, by Etienne Maxant. The impressive wall clock is centered by a stunning richly chased bottom berried foliate finial below an intricately detailed mask of a beautiful maiden. Large most decorative scrolled acanthus leaves and berried laurel branches extend up each side flanking the exceptional clock face displaying individual most decorative fitted white enameled plaques with Roman numerals while fine Arabic numbers extend around the border. At the center are richly chased scrolled foliate designs and foliate iron hour and minute hands. Above is a magnificent à la Reine floral lattice design with a superb intricately chased swaging floral garland connected to two finely detailed rams heads. At the top is a lovely pierced lattice design and beautiful floral finial. All original gilt throughout.
