Large Antique French Louis XV Ormolu Rococo Cartel Wall Clock
About the Item
A large and stunning original antique French Cartel Wall clock in finely gilded bronze, dating from around 1880. Elegantly designed in the Rococo style of Louis XV, it is formed of bold, scrolling acanthus mounted with upward scrolling flowers. Surmounted by a pierced arched arcade with a garland of leaves and flowers.
The large dial is porcelain enamel on copper with its original foliate pierced and engraved hands made of gilt brass.
The French movement is of high quality and is by Samuel Marti. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video available, please ask and we will send you a link.
Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. Dial is also very good with just some fine hairlines near the twelve o'clock.
Samuel Marti clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
