Louis Quinze-style Grand Cartel Clock with Console, "Crosnier à Paris", 19th C

About the Item

This magnificent Louis XV-style pendulum clock from the mid-19th century features elaborate Boulle marquetry and fire-gilded bronze appliqués in the form of rocaille, shell decorations, peacock motifs, and espagnolettes. The case is crowned by a fully sculpted angel playing a trumpet. The dial comprises twelve enamel cartouches with Roman numerals; at its center is a relief depiction of the Sun King. Below the dial, in another enameled cartouche, is the signature "Crosnier à Paris." Antoine Crosnier was born on January 13, 1732, in Paris. He opened his workshop on Rue Saint-Honoré in 1759 and achieved the title of "maître-horloger" in 1763. Crosnier collaborated with renowned artisans of his time, including bronze casters Robert and Jean-Baptiste Osmond, as well as cabinetmakers Jean-Pierre Latz and Balthazar Lieutaud. Today, his clocks are found in major collections worldwide, such as the Royal Collection in the United Kingdom, the Musée Nissim de Camondo, and Waddesdon Manor.
