Memphis Wall Clock by George Sowden & Nathalie du Pasquier for NEOS Lorenz

About the Item

Beautiful black and white wall clock by Memphis group founding members George Sowden and Nathalie du Pasquier. The postmodern design of the Memphis Group was very influential in the 1980’s. The colorful, daring and geometrical forms of their designs are among the finest examples of combining art and product design in the final stages of the 20th century. Designers George Sowden and Nathalie du Pasquier were founding members of the Memphis Group, which was initiated by designer Ettore Sottsass in 1981. The ‘Neos’ series of clocks consisted of several different kinds of clocks – from table and wall clocks to watches. The clock in our collection is a fine example of the more subtile and graphic side of the Memphis Group. By only using black and white Sowden and du Pasquier identified the essence of the strong and modern Memphis designs. The graphic centre of the clock combined with the simple and straightforward edge give the clock a very powerful appearance.
