About the Item

A beautifully executed and designed Japanese Art Deco chiming wall clock by the Seikosha Clock Company, having exotic woods with ebony accents in the case and a face with finely done Art Deco numerals and minute, hour hands. This rare Japanese clock from the Seikosha Clock Co, the precursor to Seiko Watches. The clock company began producing clocks in 1890. The factory was founded by Mr. Kintaro Hattori, the president of Hattori Tokeiten. In 1892 Kintaro Hattori bought a disused factory in Tokyo and Seikosha was formed (In Japanese, "Seiko" means "exquisite", "minute" or "success" and "sha" means house). In May 1892, a temporary factory was set up in Ishihara-cho, Honjo- ku, Tokyo. It is a family-run factory with a mere ten or so employees, and it seems to have used a lot of human power to power everything. The following year, 26 years later, the production of a wall clock was seen for the first time in the month. Moved to its current location in Yanagishima-cho (currently Taihei-cho), Honjo Ward, and began using seven-horsepower steam power for the first time. It feels like a completely different world, but the president's first visit to Europe and the United States from 1897 to 1900 saw the plant renew its face, and the facilities were upgraded. In 1890, the company began manufacturing nickel alarm clocks, and in 1900, it began manufacturing corner clocks, and then various metal table clocks. This kind of product was first imported from Europe and the United States, and later became a place dominated by cheaper German products. In the 31st year of the Meiji era, the Minister of Agriculture and Commerce at the time was Viscount Kane, Viscount Hirata in the 34th year of the Meiji era, and Earl Makino in the 44th year of the Meiji era. When the Russo -Japanese War broke out in 1902, the factory devoted itself to the production of military goods day and night, at the command of the factory. After the war, in the 39th year of Meiji, the president made the second visit to Europe and the United States. He was ordered to accompany Mr. Yoshikawa, an engineer, and Mr. Yoshimura, manager. The name of Seikosha's "Empire" was promoted among the same traders by driving out the products.
