About the Item
Manual typewriter, HCESAR keyboard from MESSA. With a robust design, beige structure and chrome-plated metal details.
The ‘HCESAR’ keyboard features raised, dark-coloured round keys, typical of classic typewriters, and the upper cylinder, where the paper is inserted, is wide and equipped with levers and regulators for precise paper adjustment. On the side is a cylinder return lever, used to advance the line and reposition the paper.
HCESAR was a typewriter keyboard layout that was in force in Portugal between 1937 and 1971, according to Decree-Law no. 27 868 of 1937, which made it the national keyboard. It was created as a way of protecting the national typewriter industry, represented by the Messa company, from foreign competition. Production of machines with this keyboard ceased in 1985 at the former Messa factory (1959-1985) in Mem Martins.
