An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique George V English sterling silver and enamel capstan inkwell; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver and enamel inkwell has a plain circular capstan form. The surface of this antique inkwell is embellished with exceptional enamel decoration depicting evenly spaced purple ribbon bow designs, anchoring floral festoons and pensile pink rose garlands emanating towards the outer circumference. The enamel to the waisted neck of the inkwell is further embellished with an arched purple design, incorporating a lozenge pattern. This impressive inkwell is fitted with a hallmarked cylindrical cover; the anterior surface of the cover is embellished with a guilloche enamel panel depicting further lozenge and floral garland motifs. This sterling silver inkwell is fitted with a removable liner. This impressive example of antique silverware retains the original gilding to the underside and interior. This exceptional antique enamel inkwell is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. A capstan is a revolving waisted cylindrical component of nautical machinery used to wind rope and/or cables. Condition: This antique silver and enamel inkwell is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The enamel is in perfect condition. The original gilding has wear in keeping with the age. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
