British Studio Pottery Brown Glazed Water Dropper or Inkwell
About the Item
An unusual and finely hand crafted studio pottery water dropper or inkwell decorated in brown glazes dating from the 20th century. The hand thrown hive shaped vessel stands on a flat round unglazed base with a combed finish with a rounded body rising to a small raised funnel shaped pierced top. A larger round opening is applied to the upper side and the vessel is hand decorated in brown tenmoku style glazes. The vessel has a clear impressed CT mark applied to the lower edge which we have been unable to identify.
Provenanve: Acquired from the British Art Market.

The stoneware vases are lightly potted standing on flat narrow oval shaped bases and both are hand crafted in narrow round moon shape with short narrow funnel necks and slighted everted thicker opening. The vases are decorated in splashed tenmoku brown glazes on a red brown glazed ground with a linear pattern running diagonally across the bodies. Both vases have impressed marks which we have been unable to identify, one with a series of collectors paper labels suggesting possible makers. However we have been unable to verify any of these.
