Bernard Leach Midcentury Studio Pottery Ash Glazed Coffee Pot

About the Item

A stylish midcentury ash glazed handcrafted Studio Pottery coffee pot by renowned English potter Bernard Leach CBE (British, 1887-1979) and made at the Leach Pottery in St Ives, Cornwall. The stoneware vase pot stands on a flat narrow round base with a round bulbous lower body, narrowing funnel shape neck with an enclosed top rim with central recess for the cover, a short wide strap handle molded with a ridge to one side and a large pouring spout to the opposite side. The top and inner pot is glazed in mottled stone colored glazes while the outer pot has natural mottled finish and covered in ash. The coffee pot has an impressed Leach Pottery mark along with an impressed BL seal mark and marked ENGLAND to the lower edge below the handle. Provenance: Acquired from the estate of Richard Batterham who acquired the vase directly from Bernard Leach. Thence consigned by a gentleman owner and collector. In good presentable condition with wear associated with age and use. There is a small old chip to the tip of the spout with a further couple of minor glaze chips one to the underside of the edge and another to edge of the lid.
