Victorian-era silver plate wunderkammer inkwell with emu egg

About the Item

Victorian-era silver plate wunderkammer inkwell that presents in the center of the tray a palm tree from the cut trunk on which rests reclining on four palm leaves an Australian emu egg surmounted in turn by a silver-plated metal casting emu. On the sides of the trunk are depicted an emu and a broad-leaved plant. The rectangular-shaped inkwell finely decorated edges with rounded corners was made of silver plate or silver alloy, and rests on four feet. Depicted on the base are: two primitive men in the act of hunting with a boomerang in their hands, 3 kangaroos and an emu, two ink bottles and the pen holder, all figures were made of cast metal and silver-plated . English manufacture for the Australian market datable to the second half of the 19th century. Good condition, one flask has slight discoloration and small crack on egg. Measurements 36x18x32 cm - 14.2x7.1x12.5
