After studying visual communication, Fabien Barrero-Carsenat was able to join the Saint-Etienne Higher School of Art and Design for five years. He was thus able to benefit from an Erasmus exhange in Finland which allowed him to be confronted with other practices. Then, he obtained his master’s degree in Design, more oriented towards research based on pine resin. After graduating from Saint-Etienne in 2012, the young designer went to work as an assistant designer in Pepe Heykoop’s studio in Amsterdam, where he was once again able to face experimentation and development around materials, particularly bake and scrap wood and certain metals. Following this period in Amsterdam, Fabien finally decided to devote himself to his own work and develop his studio full time. Thus were born his first projects such as the Vuoristo tables which represented mountainous landscapes inspired by those found in Scandinavia. Then, continuing his research, he focused his work on experiments by focusing on uncontrolled processes that depends on time and weather, particularly with ceramic vases on which he has been able to develop a principle of evaporation of a copper solution that made cloudy and somewhat nebulous shapes on it.
