About the Item
Beautiful, and rare, vintage Murano hand blown, iridescent shrimp aquarium paperweight sculpture. Documented to designer Alfredo Barbini, and it is signed "A. Barbini" underneath. The underside has little felt pads so the bottom does not scratch, preserving the signature. The shrimp figure inside the glass is made with a transparent taupe color, bright red eyes, and fully iridescent / aurene glass. You can see a rainbow of colors on some of the photos. The shrimp is practically 1 to 1 in proportion and extremely detailed. It is as close to anatomically correct as it could get. Would make a great display piece on any side desk or curio cabinet. Or just showcase it as a decorative piece in any room. Late Mid-century era. Collectors item! Measures 3 1/2” tall x 3 1/2” long x 1 7/8” thick.

Alfredo Barbini
Alfredo Barbini (1912–2007), a glass artist born in 1912 on the islands of Murano in the lagoon of Venice, Italy, was one of Murano's leading figures of the 20th century. His parents were members of families, which had been prominent in the glassmaking industry on Murano for generations as glassblowers and beadmakers.
