HIGHLY IMPORTANT 1/45 SCALE WIND TUNNEL JET PLANE MODEL
About the Item
It is number 26 in a series of early 1960s Vickers wind tunnel models prepared for the British Military Aircraft Project Office. The only other known wind tunnel model from the same series is the one still in the glass-enclosed “Blow Down” Supersonic Wind Tunnel of the Stratosphere Chamber at Brooklands Museum in England. Model No. 26 is specifically referenced in a summary of the test program conducted by the Military Aircraft Project Office, now in the archives of the Brooklands Museum. This model played an integral part in the development of Variable Geometry - a process that had begun in 1946 and, by way of the Anglo French Variable Geometry Project of 1965-67 and the British Aircraft Corporation P.45 design study of 1965-67, led directly to the development of the Panavia Multi Role Combat Aircraft Tornado in 1968.
