Superb condition, rare pair of hand carved, solid oak frames with stunning grapevines all around. If you are appreciative of rare and sculptural antiques then this Swiss Black Forest pair of frames could be exactly what you are looking for. The quality of the carvings and the extremely warm patina of this handcarved and solid oak pair is second to none and for these antiques to be in this good a condition makes them even more attractive and appealing. It takes a special craftsman and artist to create such pieces, the kind that you simply don't find anymore in this day and age. We think that in this pair of stunning frames are photos of what could very well be the first owners. In the early 1880s there were only black and white photos, but is was not uncommon that people would ask an artist to touch up the photos with some colors and that is exactly what was done here. We also believe that these Swiss Black Forest frames were made as a wedding gift for this gentleman and lady and with the grapevines also being a symbol for vertility it is obvious what their family or friends wished for them.
