Lumas is a well-known art gallery and publisher specializing in museum-quality limited edition prints by contemporary artists, designers, and photographers. Their editions are usually printed on high-quality paper or canvas, signed and numbered by the artist.
David Armstrong (1954–2014) was an American photographer known for his dreamy, soft-focus portraiture and urban landscapes. He was a key figure in the Boston School, a group of photographers that included Nan Goldin, with whom he shared a close artistic connection. His work often explored themes of youth, beauty, and fleeting moments, capturing subjects in natural light with a painterly aesthetic.
Armstrong gained recognition in the 1970s and 1980s for his intimate portraits of friends, often taken with a shallow depth of field, creating an ethereal effect. He later expanded his focus to cityscapes and architectural photography, maintaining his signature soft-focus style. His work has been exhibited internationally and published in books such as Night & Day (2012) and 615 Jefferson Avenue (2011).
Armstrong's contributions to photography extend to fashion as well—he collaborated with major publications like Vogue and Arena Homme+ and worked on campaigns for brands such as Bottega Veneta. His unique approach to light and focus made his work distinctive and highly sought after.
