About the Item

A rare and striking work of Murano artistry, this stunning picture frame was designed by Marcello Furlan for L.I.P. and handcrafted in Italy in 1989. Sculpted from richly hued amethyst-purple blown glass, the photo frame's bold transparency is accented by sleek black detailing, embodying the elegance and innovation of late 20th-century Venetian design. Substantial in weight and presence, the frame rests on a clear Lucite backing and easel—clean-lined elements that heighten its contemporary appeal. Though the original L.I.P. sticker remains partially visible on the back, the engraved signature underside reads "Marcello Furlan 89," affirming the piece's provenance and design pedigree. Dimensions: Overall: 9.07 in wide (23 cm) by 4.32 in deep (11 cm) by 9.07 in high (23 cm) View (picture size): 5.13 in diameter (13 cm). Reference: Marcello Furlan is an Italian designer, born in Venice in 1962 to a Murano family. Furlan owes his passion for blown glass to his father, a famous Italian master glassmaker. In 1984, after studying architecture for several years at the University of Venice, he began working in his family's glass business. He was responsible for designing and developing new decorative glass features and objects. In 1998, he started a career as a lighting fixture designer while also pursuing his role as a freelance graphic artist in advertising. His research, which stems from the study of natural and organic elements, has reinterpreted the traditional, classic form of the Venetian chandelier in a contemporary vein, developing modern solutions increasingly free from convention.
