Circa, 1998. “Under the sea we off the hook… We got no troubles… Life is the bubbles… Under the SEA!!!” LOVE that song… And, The Little Mermaid couldn’t have said it any better!!! WOW!!!! This is a MARVELOUS vintage Modern sea-green glazed Earthenware ceramic sculpture by ceramicist Martin Bleyer. Known for his one-of-a-kind exclusively creative visions, this particular piece was constructed from five individual pieces of glazed earthenware clay. There are two wheel thrown bowls (the outer part and a small bowl in the top), a slab that was textured which comprises the top where the small bowl is inset, a slab that was differently textured and rolled into a rope-like form that comprises the base, and finally a differently textured piece which we will call the “snail” or “crustacean – like” decorative element attached to the top's edge. It is undeniably unique to say the least!! We get a FABULOUS underwater or coral reef vibe from its presence. The multiple colors, textures, and elements are absolutely mesmerizing. Makes me want to go SNORKELING!!! It is going to be a GORGEOUS conversation piece displayed on a credenza, buffet, or cabinet in the family room, in the center of your coffee table in the living room among books and foliage, upon a column or display table in the entry, or wherever you exhibit your cherished sculptures and eye-catching pieces. In 1980 Martin Bleyer joined the Wisconsin union as he wanted to enroll in an introductory pottery course offered by the Mini Course program. That Mini Course forever changed his life. He discovered that he loved working with clay so he began exploring pottery utilizing the Craftshop facility. He continued to use the Craftshop for several years while he drove a taxi part time to support himself. Eventually he mastered the basics, developed his own style, and began teaching the very Mini Course that allowed him to first get started in pottery and ceramics. In 1983 Martin was accepted as the “Artist in Residence” at the Craftshop and he taught there for three years. He began selling his works at local art fairs and in 1986 he was able to quit his taxi job. Today, he is an award-winning ceramicist working out of a farm studio outside of Oregon, Wisconsin. His pieces can be found in galleries in Chicago, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Florida. This spectacular sculpture by Martin Bleyer is one of the most interesting organic shaped and beautiful pieces of ceramic work I believe I've EVER seen. Don’t you hear that? The SEA is calling!!! Organic Modern Cast Bronze Bowl Sculpture with Fish Design by John Forsythe
Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous organic modern bronze fishbowl sculpture by John Forsythe comprised of cast bronze with golden bronze and green patination. Gorgeous vintage condition with no outstanding flaws that we have found. Please see photos. Circa 1993. No human being, however great, or powerful, was ever so free as a fish – John Ruskin, Picture Quotes. Just look at this magnificent cast bronze bowl sculpture with fish design created by John Forsythe. A decorative bowl comprised of a cast bronze water whirlpool with swimming fish caught in the spinning currents, their half bodies and patinated green tails distending from the swirling water and a fish tail protruding from the exterior base of the bowl. You feel the struggle of trying to stay above water and complete your journey. Surrounded by a cast bronze rim trimmed with shiny green bubbles or fish eggs as to represent salmon and their spawning. Salmon lay an enormous number of eggs because they face a lot of adversity on their journey to becoming an adult, and while we aren’t sure these fish are in fact salmon, it certainly speaks to the realities of the course of life. Overcoming hardships and struggles and new beginnings. This sculpture is unique and one of only fifty created by John Forsythe, so it is sure to be a sought-after piece for collectors. In the style of organic modern or fantasy, this piece would be gorgeous displayed on your dining table, display cabinet or buffet in the family room, or on the coffee table in the living room. John Forsythe knew at an early age that he wanted to be an artist. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1976 with his BFA and started working with metals. He was employed as manager of Oxbow Foundry and befriended Eldon Tefft, Founder of the International Sculptor Guild and Chair of the University of Kansas Art...
