24-Legged Black Glazed Ceramic Sculpture

About the Item

This year I began focussing on the feet of a piece. How can I change the personality of the artwork by changing the feet it stands on? This challenging piece has many longer feet, 24 in fact. They appear a little wobbly-looking and delicate, but stable. The artist's hand is visible, exposing the intrinsic variations of a hand made object. As yet untitled, it is hand built of dark ceramic stoneware using the traditional hand building techniques of rolling out, cutting and forming a slab, then attaching coiled feet in an almost random pattern. After the first firing, a dense black glaze is applied and the piece is fired a second time. This glaze has tiny speckles and variations in tone, adding to the depth of the surface. Signed with hand-carved Artist's Chop on the underneath.
