About the Item
'24-karat black' is a totem of seduction, critique and reflection. Offering guidance through the difficult passage of time - dug out grooves represent trenches, uneven polished brass steps cunningly promise Jacob’s ladder, and the wood beam looks skyward in hope. It’s towering ‘burnt’ black finish is solid and defiant in contrast to the seductive dance of the shimmering brass questioning social aspirations in the midst of endemic suppression, racial stereotype and gender inequality. The sculpture’s mirrored reverse situates the onlooker within the totem, absorbing them within its spiritual journey and inviting contemplation beyond the superficial glance.

Anna Casotti IFDM The studio was founded by and features the work of artist and designer Vivian Carbonell. Vivian develops her pieces with an artists sensibility and works alongside local craftsman. Each handcrafted collection is comprised of original and limited edition lighting, furniture and accessories inspired by an emphasis on form as well as the core elements of each material chosen.
In addition to the integration of fine art and design practices the driving force of the work is striking the perfect balance between raw and refined material qualities.
