About the Item

A striking abstract stone sculpture from the late 1990s to early 2000s, created by Zimbabwean artist Peter Chidzonga, a prominent figure in the Shona Art Sculpture movement. This large, heavy, and beautifully formed abstract composition is hand-carved from a single piece of hard rock. Skillfully pierced and polished, this piece showcases the beauty of leopard stone—a rare serpentine gem celebrated for its varying green intensities, accented by black patterns and spots. The striking blend of colors, distinctive patterns, and captivating form make this piece a true eye-catcher, sure to enhance both traditional and contemporary interiors. • More on The Artist Peter Chidzonga, born in 1979 in Chiweshe, northern Zimbabwe, grew up under the care of his grandparents. Due to financial constraints, he was unable to complete his primary education. In 1991, Peter discovered his passion for sculpting, despite initial opposition from his grandparents. Their stance shifted once he sold his first piece at a significant price, earning their newfound support. Over the years, Peter's art has been featured in galleries across the globe, including Canada, the UK, the USA, the Netherlands, France, and Zimbabwe. In 2007, he spent three months in Calgary, Canada, where he showcased his work and conducted sculpture workshops, further solidifying his international reputation ------ • Measurements Height 40 cm / 15.7 in Width 25 cm / 9.8 in Depth 6 cm / 2.3 in • Condition In great vintage condition, free from notable flaws.
