Antonio da Ros for Cenedese, Momento Vase, Splendid Massiccio Masterpiece

About

Beautiful and heavy Sommerso vase. Momento series from Antonio da Ros at Cenedese. Captivating multiple layers of colors. Sommerso vase from the momento series, made by Cenedese. Three layers of cobalt, amethyst and aquamarine. The multiple colors make the vessel unique. Massiccio technique used also in the contrappunto series. Presented at the Biennale in 1960 and chosen as the winning group. One note on the Sommerso technique. This layering of glass is commonly called Sommerso. It's so used that I have ended up using it for research and clear explanation. The real name for this technique is sbruffi. Sommerso is when the glass is covered by different coating of lightly colored glass, the first color is submerged in the pot of the second color. There is no fading effect. Sbruffi is a different technique and much more difficult. Uses only clear Sommerso and the gaffer blows an intense colored glass over the first clear blob of glass covering it with a thin clear layer of glass. Sometimes Sommerso and sbruffi are used together but Sommerso is only the first layer. Base reads and other identifications, references: No signature on the base. The manufacturing quality, the kind of glass and material used identifies the piece with no doubts. Marina Barovier, Rosa Barovier Mentasti, Attilia Dorigato, Il Vetro di Murano alle Biennali 1895-1972 Evaluation assessment: There are many variations in this series. In general the multiple layers carry a higher value. Similar pieces sold on direct sales or auctions are indicating a growing appreciation and a good investment. Weight: 5.8 kg.
