"Astrum II" Extruded & Hand-Dyed Recycled Plastic

About the Item

Post consumer plastic is recycled and extruded to form this abstract vessel. It sits 14 inches tall and its unique shape is due to Cody Norman's creation process using a hand-held extrusion machine and programming a Kuka Robot. As the plastic is extruding and the vessel is being formed, it is hand painted to achieve its beautiful gradient of hues. This statement piece will demand attention in any room with its intricate detailing and texture. With major versatility, this piece can be anything from a fruit bowl to a centerpiece. Norman is a Chicago/Detroit based artist, designer, self-taught engineer, and a Cranbrook Academy of Arts graduate. His process embodies robotic 3D printing and a hand-held extrusion gun to transform recycled and bio plastics into beautiful yet functional art objects.
